Forever Young
February 11, 2006

OK, I promised so here it is: Why I got rid of Lily's goatee.

I spent this past holiday season at my parent's home with their neighbors, a very nice gay couple. The guys were cool, but they both had short hair and goatees. I thought how much they looked like Lily and patted myself on the back for being so in touch with gay male culture. Well, at least whatever suburban gay male culture was presented before me that evening. After dinner, another of my parents' gay friends stopped by - sporting a bald head and a goatee. OK, I was sensing a theme here. An hour later his partner arrived with...short hair and a goatee.

I got home that night and immediately did a doodle of a freshly shaved Lily.

I like changing the looks of Max and Lily. People change, why shouldn;t they? I get bored with comics where the characters look the same for years and decades. I know people find comfort in stability and what is recognizable, but I like change. So a shaved Lily it is.
